How to tackle with shaky mind

Dr. Most Venerable

As you don’t bite the leg of a dog when you are bitten by it, it is the advice of the Buddha, not to be aggressive at on ill-temp person who deeply insults or assaults you; moreover, not to get angry or not to try to get vengeance in a toxic situation. To follow and heed this advice can be considered as paying a great homage to the Buddha and obeying it leads to the path towards the extinction of suffering. It so happens as patience is a significant factor to practice morality in speech and bodily actions, concentration and wisdom since patience is a paramount foundation. All wholesome actions generated in a conscious mind are catalyzed by patience.

Based on the significance of the above notion, several factors on dhamma which leads to the road towards extinction of suffering, can be identified. While a man being cut off his arms and legs with an axe by thieves, forcibly to get his money, if the man wishes them disaster with a furious mind when they person the gruesome act, the Buddha has stressed in the ‘Kakachupama’ suthra that the above person does not follow his advice .

This section of dhamma well explains, how the followers of dhamma, who have stepped on to the road towards extinction of suffering, should behave, even in the wake of someon’s trivial words, low conduct and invaluable thoughts; in addition to that, even at a time he is threatened with death by somebody else. In the ‘Agatha Patiwinaya Suthra’ the Buddha has preached five component to help practice patience, which is a quality of Bodhisathwa, with a conscious mind during the, course of life, in the conventional world. It is important to practice and meditate on loving kindness, even towards the person who had been a catalyst to create fury.

Annoyance and anger in your mind because of his disagreeable or obnoxious motives and mentions.

In addition to that, compassion should be rehearsed towards the person who harms, Moreover, meditative patience, in other words, equanimity should be practiced towards the person. Also, shouldn’t be mindful about that person and should not try to remember him with a conscious mind finally, it must be remembered how a state of Karma would act upon him. This person has made karma his possession, karmic reaction would be his birthright, karma would be the course of his life, karma would be his close relative and karma would aid him. The karmic reaction that comes behind a wholesome or unwholesome action, would be upon the person who had done it as on inheritance. The Buddha has preached that with wisdom, it should be contemplated in the above manner and shed away the anger to liberate from it.

In this manner, when life becomes disciplined while living in the conventional world, it would be easy to walk down the path leading towards extinction of suffering, with contentment. The followers of the Buddha, whether they are male or female, whose sole intention is to attain nirvana: the extinction of the round of rebirth, coldness, hotness, hunger, thurst, the danger of flies and mosquitoes, wind, sunshine, serpents and harsh words should not be the initiative sources of anger, fury or annoyance, in their minds. Such followers should be cognizant with conscious minds about piercing, agonizing, excruciating and terminating bodily pain and they should be able to tolerate such unbearable pain with conscious minds. It should be percepted with an awakened mind that all formations or materials are created with elements. Such as solid element and any type of feeling is based on perception, mental formation and consciousness.

Because of having an un-practiced mind, on the three characteristics of existence, one would feel an animal or human formed of mind and body, would last for ever, have the nature of comfort ability and that they exist as you wish. Yet, it should be understood that all animate or inanimate beings or objects would change and gradually face extinction. At some instance, he might contemplate on the frivoleness of clinging to conditions such as coldness, hotness as congenial. Moreover, in another instance, he would understand the same degree of uselessness of creating a conflict on the same things. Concepts and thoughts of non- attachment or non-craving are formed when it is perceived that they are only a chain of results of what is seen, heard or spoken. For example, it should be noted that, hunger and thirst are the chain of reactions that depend on ‘Hethu Prathya’. Due to the ignorance or delusion, karmic existence is formed which causes re-birth and for the continuity of the body, it is understood that material food that should be torn and chewed such as rice, curries and vegetables should be eaten and other food that provide nourishments to the body to reinforce it also must be eaten. It is also important to be mindful about namely consciousness, karma, seasons and food.

Nevertheless, forming an intensited degree of craving thinking that its. ‘I’ or ‘Mine’, moreover, forming anger when change occurs, should be realized as futile actions. The followers, while walking down the path towards extinction of suffering, should perceive the couse an effect would gain a state of tranquility, even when they suffer with unbearable physical pain, as preached in ‘Nakulapithu Suthra’ physical body is always opt-in for diseases and it nourishes the seeds of diseases. If is worthy keeping our mind is healthy and calm.
