Basic Principles in Buddhism (නමස්කාරය)

“Namo tassa bhagavato Arahato samma sambuddhassa

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato samma sambuddhassa

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato samma sambuddhassa”

Meaning  (තේරුම)

1.Honour to that Exalted One, Arahant, the Fully Enlightened Buddha or (හෝ)

2.Honour to Him the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Fully Enlightened One or (හෝ)

3.Homage to Him, the Blessed One, the exalted One, the Fully Enlightened One

The Alphabet  (ඉංගී‍්‍රසි අක්‍ෂර මාලාව)  (Part 1)

The English alphabet consists of 26 letters. They are divided into two parts

ඉංගී‍්‍රසි භාෂාව අකුරු 26 කින් සමන්විත වේ. ඒවා කොටස් දෙකකට බෙදා දැක්විය හැකිය.

ii. Simple Letters (සරල අකුරු)

We use simple letters for general writing of English.( සරල අකුරු (කුඩා අකුරු) භාවිත වනුයේ සාමාන්‍ය ලිවීම සඳහාය.)

The simple letters in the English alphabet is as follows (පහත දක්වා ඇත්තේ ඉංගී‍්‍රසි භාෂාවේ සරල අකුරු වේ.)

2.Two kinds of letters (අකුරු වර්ග දෙකකි)

In English there are two kinds of letters. They are,
i) Vowels (වවල්ස්) - ස්වර

ii) Consonants (කොන්සෝනන්ට්ස්) – ව්‍යඤ්ජන

i) Vowels (ස්වර)

There are five vowels in the English alphabet.

A E I O U
්-අ/ආ/ඇ

ැ -එ/ඒ/ඇ

ස– ඉ/ ඵෙ

ද - ඔ

ම–අ / උ

ii) Consonants (ව්‍යඤ්ජන)

a)There are 21 consonants in the English alphabet. They are,

The Three Refuges (තිසරණය)

Buddham saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Buddha)
Dhammam saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Dhamma)
Sangham saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Sangha)
(

For the second time
Dutiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Buddha)
Dutiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Dhamma)
Dutiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Sangha)

For the third time
Tatiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Buddha)
Tatiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Dhamma)
Tatiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami
(I take refuge in the Sangha)

The word refuge can be substituted with,
Shelter – I take shelter in the Buddha / Dhamma / Sangha
Follow – I follow the Buddha / Dhamma / Sangha
Go – I go to the Buddha / Dhamma / Sangha as my refuge.
